Appeal for information launched after man is assaulted with hammer in Heanor

Published on Sunday 1 February 2026

Police are appealing for information after a man was assaulted with a hammer in Heanor.

The incident occurred at the junction of Sunningdale Avenue and Roper Avenue at around 7am on Saturday 31 January.

A 27-year-old man was attacked by another man and struck over the head with a hammer.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment for head injuries and a broken arm.

A scene was put in place while officers carried out enquiries, but the cordon has since been lifted.

Police say the incident is believed to be isolated and there is no wider threat to the public. The two men involved are thought to be known to each other.

Officers have been carrying out extensive enquiries and are now asking any witnesses, or anyone with information, to come forward.

They are particularly keen to speak to anyone with CCTV, Ring doorbell, or dashcam footage covering the area who has not yet spoken to officers.
