Food waste recycling is coming to Amber Valley
From June 2026, Amber Valley Borough Council will introduce weekly food waste recycling across the borough as part of a phased roll-out.
The new service is being introduced under the Government’s Simpler Recycling scheme and aims to increase recycling rates, reduce the amount of waste sent for disposal, and turn leftover food into useful resources such as energy and fertiliser for local farmland.
As each area joins the roll-out, households will receive:
-
a small 5-litre indoor kitchen caddy
-
a larger 23-litre outdoor caddy
-
a roll of biodegradable liners for the caddy
Different parts of the borough will receive their caddies and begin collections at different times. Residents will be notified nearer the time when their area is due to start.
Recognising that this will be a new routine for many households, the council has prepared a set of frequently asked questions explaining what can go in the caddy, how collections will work, and what residents can expect. The aim is to make the service as simple and straightforward as possible, with further information to be shared over the coming months.
Residents can find out more about the new food waste recycling service on the council’s website at:
