New Tramway Museum Society President
Saturday 10th August saw a new Tramway Museum Society President inaugurated at the National Tramway Museum in Crich.
Jason Hardy took over the role from former president, Sue Whiteley.
Jason works as a fire alarm engineer, servicing fire alarms around South Yorkshire, and has been a Tramway Museum Society (TMS) member since around 2018. Starting as a conductor after being shown an advert in one of the bus preservation magazines, Jason
went on to join the driving school and became a driver, then finally became a Duty Inspector at Crich too.
Jason’s grandad was also influential in his interest in trams as he explained:
“My grandad was a bus conductor and was the person who started my obsession with transport.”
In addition, Jason heads up the Care Team at Crich Tramway Village, who are all volunteers who carry out a lot of work, such as cleaning, painting and gardening at the museum during the winter, preparing for the next season.
Commenting on his appointment as TMS President, Jason said:
“I struggled to put into words how much it means to me on Saturday evening. It's just such a huge honour.
“I love the museum and spending time there with my tramway family, especially with the Care Team in winter. As with all the other groups on site, the Care Team is filled with great people and I'm so proud to play a small part in it.
I would like to focus my term on celebrating our volunteers and do whatever I can to promote the work they do.”
