Special Concert To Celebrate 140 Years Of Somercotes Salvation Army

Published on Sunday 13 September 2026

The Salvation Army
Sleetmoor Lane, Somercotes, DE55 1RB

Presents a special concert by the Pye Hill & District Male Voice Choir in celebration of the Corps’ 140th anniversary.

Saturday 10 October 2026 at 7pm

Somercotes Salvation Army Corps was first formed in 1886, starting out in stables until a tin structure was built at its existing location. This was later replaced with a brick structure in the 1930s.

It has a proud history of service to the local community and beyond, often making a positive difference to individuals who need support in a variety of ways.

This concert has been arranged to celebrate The Salvation Army’s continued presence in Somercotes for 140 years.

The Pye Hill & District Male Voice Choir has been invited to perform as it also has a long local history, dating back to 1903, and has performed at Somercotes Salvation Army Corps on a number of occasions over many decades.

The choir goes on tour annually and is well known nationally through this. In May, it visited Chester and took part in a music festival at Wrexham, where it had the privilege of being invited to sing several songs with the famous Fron Male Voice Choir, also known as Voices of the Valley.

In 2027, the choir has been invited by Swansea Male Voice Choir to tour Swansea. However, most of its concerts are held locally in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, often raising money for charities and other good causes.

Many genres of music will be covered during the concert, enhanced by talented soloists and musicians.

Entry to the concert is free on the door. Voluntary donations to Somercotes Salvation Army would be appreciated and will support its continued work within the local community. Everyone is welcome.

The Pye Hill & District Male Voice Choir rehearses at the Dale Club in Jacksdale every Monday evening at 7.30pm, except on Bank Holidays.

Why not come along and give it a go? You have nothing to lose, but a great deal to gain through the joy of singing and making new friends.

The choir is now planning towards its own 125th anniversary in 2027 and you are invited to be part of its future. If you would like the choir to sing for you during 2026 or 2027, please get in touch. The choir is also seeking sponsors to help arrange special events during 2027.
