Ambitious PT 'works out' plan to save troubled Derby gym
A Derby gym that was threatened with closure has been saved – in a bid that will save jobs, hundreds of memberships, and exercise facilities for two local schools including Jasmine Hall and the Royal School for the Deaf.
The takeover, headed up by 24-year-old personal trainer Harvey Doleman, will see The Fitness Mill, in Ashbourne Road, given a state-of-the-art makeover and ‘revolutionise' personal fitness.
Harvey from Ingleby now has some serious plans to shape up the facility, which was previously called énergie Fitness Derby.
Harvey said: "This is a community facility, and I will be re-investing in the gym and its members with continual improvements and top-notch gym equipment. This is a really exciting prospect, and I cannot wait to put my own stamp on the place."
Free classes are also now included in the membership fee and expert personal trainers are on hand.
“I have introduced a dedicated boxing area with punch bags and I will be adding a physio room to support both the mental and physical health of gym users,” said Harvey.
He stressed that gym membership prices will remain the same as previous.
The Fitness Mill also provides a community space for two specialist schools, Jasmine Hall and the Royal School for the Deaf.
Harvey said he was keen to expand on this local community asset. “My intention is to create a community space – a place open to everyone and where local residents can come together”, he said.
“Without the rescue plan, four jobs would have been lost, memberships would have ceased, and community groups would have been left without a venue.”
Opening offers will also include the first 14 days free, a refer a friend scheme and special student offers.
