Former Duffield Masonic Hall to go under the hammer with £160,000 guide price
A former Masonic Hall in the heart of Duffield, one of Derbsyhire’s most highly sought villages, is to go under the hammer this month with a guide price of £160,000.
The stone-built property on King Street will feature in the live stream auction, held by BTG Eddisons Property Auctions on 27 August.
Dating back to the late 18th century, the building has around 2,000 sq ft of space across two floors. It includes a reception, kitchen, cellar and bar area on the ground floor, with a lobby and the main hall on the first floor.
The building was originally a Wesleyan Methodist Chapel before the congregation outgrew the premises and moved elsewhere. In the early 1900s, it was acquired by local Freemasonry groups and converted into a Masonic Hall.
It went on to host lodge meetings and social events for more than a century before closing and passing into private ownership.
Robert Stone, director at BTG Eddisons Property Auctions, said: “This is an interesting property with plenty of history and character, right in the centre of Duffield.
“It has been a Masonic Hall for more than a century, but its next chapter could look very different. There are a number of possibilities for the building, subject to the necessary planning consents, and we expect to see interest from buyers looking at both residential and commercial uses.”
The property is on King Street in the centre of Duffield, within easy reach of Belper and Derby.
