Building fire on Chapel Street, Kilburn - Fire Investigation Outcome
A joint fire and police investigation has been unable to determine the cause of a fire at a church on Chapel Street in Kilburn, Belper, due to the scale of the damage and the risk of structural collapse.
Fire crews from Alfreton, Ascot Drive, Belper, Heanor, Ilkeston, Nottingham Road and Ripley stations attended the incident following a 999 call to the fire service’s control room at 00:24 hours on Friday 11 September.
Supported by an aerial ladder platform, firefighters used main line jets to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to neighbouring properties. Fire crews initially left the scene at 07:20 hours.
Alfreton firefighters returned at 09:00 hours to deal with newly identified hotspots, monitor conditions and assist with the fire investigation.
The final fire crews left the scene at 12:58 hours and handed over to the building’s owner.
No injuries have been reported.
