Linsey Farnsworth MP to Host Major Dementia Support & Care Event
Linsey Farnsworth, Member of Parliament for Amber Valley, has announced she will host a major community Dementia Information Forum at The Grammar, Heanor on 19th September.
The event aims to serve as a comprehensive "one-stop shop" for individuals, families, and unpaid carers across Amber Valley who are navigating dementia care.
The issue is deeply personal for Ms Farnsworth, whose own father lives with late-stage dementia. Since being elected, she has been an active voice in Parliament on health equality, Alzheimer's support, and carers' rights, including raising the need for urgent action on dementia research, diagnostic pathways, and care with the Leader of the House.
The event will be divided into two accessible parts:
• Morning Forum & Keynote Addresses (10:00 AM – 11:30 AM): A structured presentation focusing on three core themes: local service availability, improvements in early diagnosis, and the latest breakthroughs in research. Keynote speakers include representatives from the Alzheimer’s Society, Dementia UK, and Laurence Geller CBE, founder of The Geller Commission. Advance booking is required for this session due to limited seating.
• Public Information Fair & Drop-In (11:30 AM – 1:00 PM): An informal exhibition featuring stalls from national charities, local Amber Valley care providers, council services, community activity groups, and memory cafes. Free entry; no booking required.
Speaking ahead of the event, Linsey Farnsworth MP said:
"My dad lives with late-stage dementia, so I know firsthand the painful toll of navigating misdiagnosis, complex care systems, and the heavy burden placed on unpaid carers.
"No family in Amber Valley should have to navigate dementia alone. That is why I am bringing national experts and local providers together under one roof to ensure our community gets direct access to clear advice, practical support, and genuine hope for the future."
