Derbyshire farm shop in running for major national food awards
A Derbyshire farm shop has hopes of scooping yet more prizes for its award-winning produce in a nationally-renowned foodie competition next week.
Croots Farm Shop, at Farnah House Farm outside Duffield, has entered three of its famed homemade pies in the British Pie Awards, as part National Pie Week kicking off on Monday 2nd March. Judging will take place in Melton Mowbray on March 4th, and the winners announced two days later at an awards lunch on Friday March 6th.
Croots Farm Shop, which as a long track record of winning national food awards, has selected three of its famed foodie treats, the Croots Red Leicester and Spring Onion Pasty, the Croots Pork Pie and the Croots Lamb & Mint Pie, for entry into the three categories. The pies are all made on site using locally reared meats from Croots Farm Shop butchery and home reared lamb.
Croots Farm Shop owner Kay Croot said: “We’ve been thrilled in the past to win national and local prizes for our pies, and are hoping the judges will once again recognise all the hard work and expertise that goes into our products. This is a wonderful opportunity to show the world the quality pies we are so proud of producing.”
Croots Farm Shop will also be marking National Butchers Week, organised by the National Craft Butchers Association, taking place from the 2nd to 8th March. The national event is an opportunity to celebrate Croots Farm’s expertise and knowledge, and a team of three butchers who between them have some 100 years of experience in the craft.
Kay said: “National Butchers Week is a fantastic ways to celebrate the quality beef, pork and lamb that we source direct from our farm or local farmers. Our Butchery team works closely with the Croots team in the Café, Deli and our Production Kitchen to prepare the meat for our Croots homemade range of pies, pork pies, pastries and scotch eggs and for the café breakfast and lunch dishes.”
