Belper community urged to help veteran celebrate landmark birthday with 104 cards
A Belper care home is calling on local people to help a veteran who is turning 104 to celebrate his birthday.
Maurice Baldwin, a resident at Kiburn Care Home in Belper, part of Aurem Care, is set to celebrate his remarkable 104th birthday on 25th July.
To mark this incredible milestone, the care home is inviting the local community to come together and help Maurice, who still vividly remembers D Day, receive 104 birthday cards, one for each year of his life.
Maurice, who has spent over a century witnessing extraordinary changes in the world, married Joan in 1940. Together, they built a loving family, including five children, 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren. Sadly, Maurice and Joan lost one of their children at the age of 56, a poignant reminder of the family's strength and resilience.
Amy Weston, home manager at Kiburn Care Home, expressed her admiration for Maurice's life and the significance of this celebration: "Maurice is an inspiration to us all. His life story is a testament to enduring love and family values. We're excited to celebrate his 104th birthday and would love for the community to join us in making it special by sending him birthday cards. Receiving 104 cards would be a wonderful way to honour his incredible journey."
Maurice's family and the staff at Kiburn Care Home are eagerly preparing for the celebration and hope that the local community will participate in this heartwarming initiative. Cards can be sent to the following address:
