Alfreton Town Council - Alfreton Regeneration Plan
Alfreton Town Council have developed a regeneration plan for Alfreton to improve and introduce enhancements in the Town. A budget of £17,500.00 has been allocated to this project this year.
Some initiatives are being supported by the Welcome Back Fund (WBF) delivered in partnership with Amber Valley Borough Council, a further £30,000.00 has been secured for specific projects to manage successful reopening of the high street following the Covid pandemic.
The projects which have been identified range from a Community Hub with youth and meeting facilities, centrally in the town, free car parking for a period of time, historical trail and interpretation boards at significant locations, litter picking scheme, creating a town brand, planting schemes and regular pop-up events to name but a few.
There is a longing to restart a market on Institute Lane something which has too long been hindered and we are seeking ways to work around the restrictions that are in place to make the High Street, Institute Lane and Severn Square the vibrant shopping zone it once was.
Lead Member for Regeneration, Councillor David Taylor said ‘The Town Council have a desire to improve the vibrancy of Alfreton and build on the Community spirit shown during the last 18 months, making Alfreton an enjoyable place to visit, shop and pass through. Alfreton is a pretty unique town, spanning only a mile square and has much on offer for such a compact area. On our doorstep we have a Football Club, Cricket Club, Golf Club, many independent stores supported by nationals, a large indoor market, great schools along with a special school, thriving businesses and wonderful green spaces to celebrate. We can only do this by working together.’ Shopping local and supporting the high street will provide long term sustainability of Alfreton, the Town Council are hoping that these projects will support that vision.
Many of the projects will be delivered before March 2022 with some being longer term, full details can be viewed here https://alfretontowncouncil.co.uk/alfreton-regeneration-plan/
We would love to hear from you if you have any ideas on the identified projects or would like to get involved, please get in touch!
