Police appeal to trace his next of kin of Codnor man

Published on Saturday 20 June 2020

Police officers have released a photo of a man from Codnor as part of an appeal to trace his next of kin.

Graham Clay, who lived in a flat in Heanor Road, had been taken ill recently and sadly died in May.

The 66-year-old was reclusive and rarely had visitors, and despite efforts on behalf of the coroner Police have been unable to trace any next of kin.

Police are taking the unusual step of releasing a photo of Mr Clay as part of their efforts to find any living relations.

PC Eleanor Kirton, who is leading the appeal, said: “Mr Clay had lived in the Codnor area for a long time and sadly passed away in his home last month.

“We understand from a small number of people who knew him that he was a quiet man who kept himself to himself and didn’t have many visitors.

“Since his death, we have carried out a number of checks to find any relatives but unfortunately we haven’t been able to do so.

“The last thing we want is for a relative to find out about Mr Clay’s death through social media but it’s important that we try to find any surviving next of kin, even if he was no longer in touch with them.”

Anyone who recognises him from the photo or knows anyone who may have information that could help, should contact police using one of the below methods.
