Change of name for Somercotes choir - appeal for new members
Somercotes Choral Society has changed its name, and after 60 years will be known as Somercotes Community Singers.
Jen Adams, the choir’s chairwoman, says: “We have decided to change our name to reflect the modern songs we have in our repertoire.”
The choir performs two concerts each year in Somercotes Village Hall and rehearses each Tuesday evening at Swanwick School and Sports College. The last concert was in October, and now members are rehearsing for the April 2020 concert on Saturday 25th.
Jen adds:”The songs are well known and popular. We have recently sung songs by Cold Play, Elton John and are currently rehearsing songs from ‘Wicked.’
“We do not have auditions, and provide practice CDs for each musical part, so there is no need to read music. Our music has a wide appeal, and new members are always welcome and will have a buddy to help them.
We are a relaxed and friendly group and have a number of social events. Why not come along ANY Tuesday, and give us a try?” added Jen.
Further information is available from Jen on 01773 789079
The choir practises at Swanwick School and Sports College, Hayes Lane, Swanwick every Tuesday at 7.15 -9.15 pm.
