Friendship Orchard Fruit trees now free In Belper
The Friendship Orchard aims: To plant a network of trees in Belper that will provide food for all to share, connect people, increase biodiversity, reduce fossil fuel consumption, and save money. Do you have a spot in your garden/ yard of your business/ a space that you have permission and can be planted? Join us and become part of the Friendship Orchard to plant fruit trees.
We have some left over trees that need a home quickly and Belper Town Council have offered to pay for them so that you can have a tree for free! There aren't many so it's first come first served. They are mainly apple trees, and they will grow to be 4m in height if not pruned. The trees don't come in pots, they are what is called 'bareroot' and will need planting straight away. It's best to keep the roots in a bucket of water while you dig your hole. Bring a bin liner to pick your tree up, to keep the roots from drying out.
We would love it if you would like to become a 'Food Tree Steward' (this is optional), look after the tree, and when the trees fruit, share the produce with the community. If you would like to do this, contact us via friendshiporchard@yahoo.com and we can put your tree on the orchard map.
All the available trees will be at St Johns Chapel on Monday 28th Feb from 10am.
