Rewilding Our Senses - FREE event returns to Common Farm this weekend
Derbyshire Wildlife Trust is thrilled to announce the return of its annual free, family-friendly event at Common Farm, Nether Heage, on Saturday 19th September. This year’s event, Rewilding Our Senses, promises a day of fun, discovery and connection with nature.
People of all ages are invited between 11.00am and 3.00pm to discover new ways to connect with nature and learn more about the Trust’s work to create a Wilder Derbyshire.
Throughout the day, visitors can enjoy a range of engaging activities designed to showcase the Trust's work across the county and awaken the senses. Hear wildlife talks, feel more connected through nature-based crafts and Nature Tots activities for younger visitors, see nature recovery in action on nature walks, and taste delicious local flavours from the café or bring a picnic and make a day of it.
The event will be an opportunity to discover more about the Trust’s ambitious plans for nature recovery, explore how landscapes can be restored for wildlife and people, and find out how everyone can play a part in creating a Wilder Derbyshire.
At 1pm, the Trust will host its 64th Annual General Meeting, where members and supporters can hear about the bold, transformative work the Trust has been part of over the past year and its plans to do more for Derbyshire’s wildlife.

“We’re delighted to welcome people back to Common Farm for another day celebrating nature, people and the incredible work happening across Derbyshire. It’s an unmissable day out for anyone who loves nature, creativity and community.
“Events like this are a wonderful opportunity to get outside, try something new and discover how we can all play a part in nature’s recovery. Whether you’re joining us for a wildlife walk, getting creative with nature, finding out more about our work or simply enjoying time outdoors with family and friends, there will be something for everyone.
“Common Farm itself is a fantastic example of what can happen when people come together to make space for nature. We’re looking forward to sharing more about its journey and our wider vision for a Wilder Derbyshire.”
Common Farm was purchased by Derbyshire Wildlife Trust in 2024 following an incredible appeal response from more than 2,000 supporters. The 34-hectare site is now part of the Trust’s long-term programme of nature recovery, with the landscape being managed to create a rich mosaic of grassland, scrub and woodland.
Since then, the Trust has continued to secure land for nature and people, including 135 acres at Middleton Moor and, most recently, its largest single land acquisition to date – 600 acres at Eyam Moor. Together, these landscapes are helping to create more space for nature and build a wilder, more connected Derbyshire.
Rewilding Our Senses is open to all and completely free to attend. Please book your space in advance so the Trust can manage attendee numbers.
