The dazzling Darley Park Concert returns this summer
The Darley Park Concert will return in 2026, marking the grand finale of The Darley Park Weekender. This summer tradition invites families and friends to the beautiful surroundings of Darley Park for an unforgettable evening of music.
At the heart of the performance on Sunday 23 August will be Derby’s own award-winning orchestra, Sinfonia Viva. Based in the East Midlands, the ensemble has been the cornerstone of the concert for over three decades, consistently delivering joyful and inspiring performances.
The 2026 concert also sees the return of the esteemed British conductor, Stephen Bell. Currently serving as the Principal Guest Conductor of the RTÉ Concert Orchestra and Associate Conductor of the Hallé, Stephen is internationally renowned for his diverse repertoire and extensive broadcasting history with the BBC. His distinguished career includes conducting at the BBC Proms, the Queen’s Jubilee, and various royal galas.
This year’s programme will feature music from dramatic films and magical musicals, including Apollo 13 and Beauty and the Beast, alongside firm classical favourites by Mozart and Tchaikovsky.
The night will culminate in a spectacular pyrotechnic display, transforming the night sky. This fusion of colour and sound is designed to delight audiences of all ages, providing a dazzling conclusion to the weekend’s festivities.
Councillor Nadine Peatfield, Leader of Derby City Council, said: “The Darley Park Concert is a jewel in our city’s summer, bringing the community together in a way few other events can. There is something truly magical about hearing the world-class Sinfonia Viva under the open sky.
“I encourage everyone to pack their picnics and join us for what promises to be an unforgettable finale to the weekend.”
Lucy Galliard, Chief Executive of Sinfonia Viva, said: “The Darley Park Concert is a real highlight of Sinfonia Viva’s annual programme of performances. The combination of the stunning surroundings of Darley Park, the energy and appreciation of the wonderful audience, and the fabulous selection of orchestral music make this a very special event.
“We are looking forward to reuniting with Stephen Bell for this concert, for what promises to be a truly magical evening.”
