Salcare Calls for Urgent Support as Food Donations Drop Ahead of Winter
Salcare, the Heanor-based charity supporting vulnerable people across Amber Valley, is appealing for urgent community support after seeing a big drop in food donations in recent months.
For years, supermarket collection trolleys and community contributions have played a vital role in helping Salcare provide the basics; food, toiletries, and household essentials to people in need. But with donations falling and the colder months approaching, the charity is warning that the coming weeks will be critical for families already struggling.
“We are seeing people ask daily for the most basic items - pasta, rice, sauces, soups, tinned food, and long-life milk. These aren’t luxuries, they’re essentials,” said Don Davis, CEO. “Sadly, donations through supermarket trolleys have dropped significantly at the very time they’re needed most.”
Salcare is now calling on:
• Heanor and Loscoe Town Council, local businesses, and supermarkets to support the charity through funding, donations and grants.
• Local people to donate whenever possible; either through supermarket collection points or by bringing items directly to Salcare in Heanor.
• Supporters and organisations to consider making Salcare their Charity of the Year, helping sustain the service long term.
Direct financial donations are also welcome, enabling Salcare to purchase food and essentials when stock runs low.
“We know times are tough for everyone, but if every household could add just one or two extra items to their shop and drop them in the supermarket trolley, the difference it would make would be huge,” added Don. “We urge people to support not just Salcare, but all charities like us working hard to keep our communities fed and warm this winter.”
