Drone Helps Choir Catch New Recruits
A group of local music loving, singing, entertaining, and laughing guys called Alfreton Male Voice Choir are after guys to join this forward-looking group which has made a short promotional video to show what it’s like to be a member.

The Choir have been around a long time but that is not stopping them looking to the future to continue entertaining local communities in the Alfreton, Ripley, Heanor and surrounding communities.
The choir guys took over a chapel at Nether Heage, hired professionals eventhorizon@techie.com, turned the chapel into a recording studio, then spent a day singing inside and out – including singing to a drone! Mind, 80% of the days recording ended up on the editor’s floor for a four-five minute promotional video including the Choirs ‘Sagalouts’ a slightly irreverent group of the of the Choir who transform into a visually different quartet performing sea shanties. Also showing the Choirs need for fun as they quickly dispatched one members’ attempt at a monologue rather than singing!
Choir chairman, Mick Mullarkey said, “It was great time making the video and really shows the spirit of the Choir, yes, the singing, but also the fun, the laughter, banter with desire to entertain. We would love to more local guys to join us, you don’t need musical experience, we give you that. What you need is a sense of humour and a wish to entertain others by singing in a group.”
The Choir is a busy group of singers, with public performances coming up including at Derby Cathedral; with a group of other choirs at Belpers’ St Peters Church and, on the 3rd of June the Choirs’ annual charity concert is alongside Shirland Brass Band.
The Choir guys, who have professional director and accompanists guys meet each Thursday evening from 6.30pm at the palmer Morewood Social Club, Hall Street Alfreton DE55 7BU and afterwards in the bar!
