Shine A Light Set To Wow At Elvaston Castle
Hot on the heels of two successful nights at Cromford Mills, Derbyshire’s stunning Shine A Light spectacular is back for a second instalment at Derbyshire County Council’s Elvaston Castle Country Park on Saturday 19 & Sunday 20 November.
Tickets for the magical after-dark adventure are selling fast as visitors prepare to watch part of Derbyshire’s history unfold in a breath-taking display of light and sound projected against the dramatic backdrop of the gothic castle, where love conquers all in a tale of beauty and honour.
Prepare to be dazzled by awe-inspiring animations, where great trees will take walks, waterways flow, and the flamboyance of Elvaston will return to delight us once more, providing fun and entertainment for the whole family.
And with hot food vendors and a licensed bar in the grounds of the castle too, Shine A Light promises to delight all of the senses with Amarok Bar, Don Kitchen, Project D, SP Party Creations and Simply Delish on hand to tickle your tastebuds plus on-site cafe Wyatts and the Information Centre and Shop serving hot drinks.
See a sneak preview of the animation which will be projected onto the castle walls.
Councillor Barry Lewis, Leader of Derbyshire County Council which commissioned Shine A Light, said: “Our opening event at Cromford Mills got great reviews and we’re really excited to be bringing Shine A Light to one of our own iconic venues this year at Elvaston Castle.
“These really are unique experiences and a great way to spend an evening with family and friends so grab your ticket while you still can!”
Further chapters of Shine A Light will unfold at Barrow Hill Roundhouse on 8 and 9 December and Hardwick Hall on 17 and 18 February with cutting-edge displays unique to each venue.
And visitors who watch all 4 displays – and successfully spot the ‘hidden animal’ at each – will have the fantastic opportunity to enter a prize draw to win a hamper of local produce.
The cutting-edge animations run at regular intervals throughout both nights, with each showing incorporating a live performance from a brass quartet featuring trumpeters and trombonists brought together by the Derby & Derbyshire Music Partnership.
Jo Dilley, Managing Director of Marketing Peak District & Derbyshire, said:
“After the brilliant success of Shine A Light at Cromford, the upcoming displays at Elvaston Castle promise even more magical after-dark entertainment for both visitors and residents alike.
“Derbyshire is fortunate to have some of the world’s most significant heritage attractions, and not only do these large-scale projections bring local history to life against an iconic backdrop, they also offer the chance to do something different with friends and family as the nights draw in. Each venue has its own story to tell, and we urge people to enjoy not just one, but multiple shows for an unforgettable experience to remember.”
Delivered by internationally-renowned Derbyshire-born video projection artists Illuminos, Shine A Light is designed to celebrate Derbyshire’s rich history and heritage, extend the tourism season and boost the visitor economy in the wake of the pandemic.
The county council commissioned the events following a successful pilot in 2021 when Shine A Light displays held at Chatsworth and Cromford Mills were enjoyed by more than 3,200 visitors.
Tickets cost £9 for adults and £6 for concessions and children aged 16 and under. Under 4s go free.
