Squash the statistic and check your breasts year-round for cancer
Last month, Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust’s Breast Cancer team supported national Breast Cancer Awareness month and took the opportunity to remind people to check their breasts all year-round by taking part in a photoshoot with an important message.
One in seven women in the UK will develop breast cancer in their lifetime (Breast Cancer Now) and the team at Chesterfield Royal Hospital are reminding people to check their breasts regularly and often.
Joining in with the national awareness campaign, the breast cancer team took part in an October themed photograph, inspired by the popular film ‘Calendar girls’ – with home-grown pumpkins and squashes from a colleague’s allotment as props. The photo is a light-hearted take on the hit film and is shared in order to create awareness for a very important cause.
Emily Moulds, Macmillan clinical nurse specialist says: “I’m delighted that we’ve been able to raise awareness for this important campaign during Breast Cancer Awareness month. It is incredibly important for everyone to check their breasts all year round, and if this photograph reminds one person to do that, then we’ve achieved our objective.”
The Breast Unit at Chesterfield Royal Hospital offers a wide range of high-quality services for all patients with breast problems and is also the centre for the North Derbyshire Breast Screening Programme.
In 2020, North Derbyshire saw around 1,800 cancer cases, and around 840 deaths of people with cancer - Cancer Research UK.
