Retrain, Reskill, Reinvent with DCG This Spring

Derby College Group (DCG) has launched a special programme of part time and distance learning study programmes for adults this Spring – enabling people to retrain, reskill and even reinvent their career options.


Course start dates vary and many are free of charge.

Study programmes based at The Roundhouse technical and professional skills college in Pride Park include Childcare, Plumbing and Gas Training, Professional Construction and Motor Vehicle.

Community learning programmes are based at Ilkeston with some additional distance learning options and subjects range from English and Maths and ESOL to Counselling and introductions to Biology and Psychology

Options based at Broomfield Hall in Morley include those in the career areas of Agriculture, Animal Care, Arboriculture, Equine, Floristry and Sport.

People interested in developing skills in areas such as Business and Professional Education, Training and Development have a wide range of choice with study programmes available which are classroom-based, delivered in the individual’s own workplace and with distance learning options.

Construction programmes – including Brickwork, Carpentry, Painting and Decorating, Plastering, Plumbing and Plumbing as well as Hospitality and Catering programmes are available for learning  and assessment in the workplace.

Distance learning options include a wide range of Health and Social Care and Retail programmes and a diverse programme of statutory and development training delivered by the Roundhouse Thinking team.  These include Health and Safety, HR and People Management, First Aid, Food Safety, Finance and Accounting, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, IT skills, Marketing and Leadership and Management programmes.

Learning for leisure courses are popular with adult learners including a Criminal Psychology study programme.

Assistant Principal of Community and Adult Education Jennifer Rehman explained: “At DCG we offer a range of courses for adults that will help people to gain the necessary skills and qualifications to further their career or progress on to a higher level of study.

“From April onwards some of our courses will be free for adults depending on their personal circumstances.

“There are also a number of Distance Learning courses to boost career options or pursue a new interest. Distance learning is an ideal way to gain a nationally recognised qualification  or develop skills while studying online with the flexibility to fit in with people’s other work and family commitments in the comfort of their own home.”
