Covid Winter Grant Scheme To Be Extended Into April
Additional funding for Derbyshire County Council is being provided, as the government extends the COVID Winter Grant Scheme to cover the April school holidays.
The council has already received almost £2.2m from the Government’s Covid Winter Grant Scheme to support vulnerable families with food and fuel costs over the winter months.
This has meant a £30 voucher per eligible child was sent to families in December and again in February. As the seasons change and we head into spring the additional grant funding means that Derbyshire County Council will once again provide a £30 food voucher to help eligible families in April.
In addition to the food vouchers, there will be additional funding available to help households and individuals who find themselves in financial crisis.
Derbyshire County Council Cabinet Member for Young People, Councillor Alex Dale said: “While the roadmap out of lockdown has been published and there is light at the end of the tunnel we are not there yet. We very much welcome this extension to the grant scheme that means we can continue to help to ease the pressureon families who are the most in need.
“We’ll use the same, simple system we’ve used previously with food vouchers being sent directly to the mobile phone numbers or email addresses which eligible parents have already supplied to their child’s school or childcare provider.
“This means you don’t need to get in touch with us as if you are eligible, we will send you the vouchers automatically as long as your contact details are up to date with your school or nursery.”
