Make A Difference As A Derbyshire County Council Carer
Derbyshire County Council is appealing to people to ‘Make a Difference’ by becoming a care worker supporting some of Derbyshire’s most vulnerable residents.
The authority is offering flexible, long or short-term contracts with a fast-track application process.
It wants to hear from people looking to work flexible hours including former carers who may consider a return to the profession, people aged 18 or over or retirees.
Recruits are needed to offer support to help older and disabled people lead dignified, fulfilled lives in the county council’s own care homes.
Tasks would include helping people get washed and dressed, preparing light meals or snacks and supporting people to take their medication or offer personal care.
New starters, along with all other county council care staff, will have access to all the personal protective equipment they need to stay safe while doing their job in line with Government guidelines.
No previous experience is necessary as full training is given.
Councillor Jean Wharmby, Cabinet Members of Adult Social Care, issued an appeal for people to consider helping the county’s most vulnerable residents.
She said: “This has been an unprecedented year and we’ve seen many, many examples of Derbyshire Spirit where people in our communities are helping each other through this most difficult time.
“Now we need people’s help to make sure we continue to support our most vulnerable residents with the vital care and support they need.
“Our carers have and continue to do an amazing job in difficult circumstances, often going above and beyond the call of duty, and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank them all.
“Our carers really have been a lifeline to elderly residents who have been unable to see their loved ones throughout the pandemic.
“Now we need more people like them so why not consider working for us? You don’t need any experience, just a caring nature. Make a difference - become a carer.”
As well as people whose working situation may have changed during the pandemic, the council is also calling for retired care workers to return and young people who are looking to get on the career ladder.
Councillor Wharmby added said: “We know coronavirus has changed a lot of people’s lives but I’d ask you to consider helping to change lives yourself by helping to care for people who need it most.”
