Amber Valley Borough Council hands out £1.3m in business support grants
Crich Tramway Village was one of around 200 Amber Valley businesses and charities that have been supported by the borough council through the Local Authority Discretionary Grants Fund (LADGF) in recent weeks.
The Tramway Village, which has charitable status, has been awarded a grant of £25,000, which has assisted a Covid-secure re-opening of the popular attraction.
Commenting on the grant award, Dr Mike Galer, General Manager at Crich Tramway Village, said "Crich Tramway Village are delighted to receive this money, which, along with other emergency funding, will go a long way to ensure our survival in these challenging times."
The LADGF enabled the council to provide funding for local businesses that were not eligible for, and had not received, cash grants from any central government COVID-19 related support.
The council has so far processed a total of £1.12m of grants to 174 businesses. A further 28 grants will be processed over the next 2 weeks to take the total to £1.3m.
Commented Councillor Ben Bellamy, Amber Valley Borough Council portfolio holder for regeneration and community safety said "We wrote to the Government highlighting the many gaps in the original business-support scheme, and were able to secure a relatively small amount to plug some of those gaps at our discretion.
"It’s vital these small business are kept going, as they ultimately pay the wages, and therefore household bills, of very many people in our borough. We will continue to lobby the Government to provide as much support as possible to all local businesses in the interests of giving the local economy a fighting chance of bouncing back after the devastating impact of the pandemic."
