New Digital PCSO joins the fight against cybercrime @DigitalPCSO
After more than ten years of life of the beat, Police Community Support Officer James Land has become Derbyshire’s latest Digital PCSO.
James will be offering important advice on cybercrime and cyber security to prevent people in the county becoming a victim. He will do this by meeting people in the community and through the @DigitalPCSO Twitter account and blog.
He said: “As the threat from cybercrime is rapidly growing nationally, Derbyshire police are tackling it as a priority. I am looking forward to being able to help by providing vital information to help people stay safe online.
“Part of my day-to-day role will include identifying emerging cybercrimes and analysing statistics, as well as offering advice and conducting educational inputs at schools, community groups and at other events.
“Derbyshire police’s cybercrime unit is already focused on ensuring that the force provides a quality response to all forms of online crime in our communities; however a significant amount of cybercrime could be prevented in the first instance if members of the public were aware of how to protect themselves from becoming victims of online crime.”
As well as providing prevention advice and online safety guidance, James will also be able to answer any queries and concerns that members of the public may have about their online safety.
James is taking over the role of Digital PCSO from Shevani Raichura, who has moved to a new job elsewhere in force.
