New Inspector takes over policing in the Amber Valley area

Published on Thursday 11 May 2017

A new Inspector has taken over the lead of policing in the Amber Valley area.

Inspector Dave Parker took over management of Amber Valley Local Policing Unit this week, picking up from Insp. Pat Howitt who has moved on to a new role in Operational Support.

Dave, who lives locally, joined Derbyshire Constabulary in 1997. He was first posted to the Ashbourne area and was awarded probationer, or student police officer, of the year in 1999.

During his 20 years’ service, Dave has worked throughout the county with roles in response, rural crime, scenes of crime and in partnership roles with district councils and county councils, with a particular focus on community safety, safeguarding and children’s services.

He was involved in setting up a number of projects during his time as a partnership Sergeant, including Operation Illuminate, to target acquisitive crime around shed and garage burglaries, Farm Watch, and has organised events including Liberation Day, to help older and more vulnerable members of the community stay safe, and diversionary activities for young people.

For the last 18 months, he has been a response Inspector, which included 24 hour operational responsibilities throughout the Amber Valley, Derbyshire Dales, Bolsover, North East Derbyshire, Chesterfield and the High Peak.

Insp. Parker said: “I am looking forward to this new role and I’m really pleased to be given the opportunity to lead policing in the Amber Valley area, an area where I have lived for the last 20 years.

“My priorities will be to continue to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour, to take appropriate action whenever an issue or concern is identified, and to work in partnership with local agencies to ensure the Amber Valley remains a safe and peaceful place to live, work and visit.”

To contact Insp. Parker, call 101, or send him a message online through the Contact Us page of the Derbyshire police website: www.derbyshire.police.uk.
