Closure Order for problem house in Heanor
A house on Broadway, Heanor, was closed down on 20 April, for a period of three months after Derby Magistrates granted Closure Orders to Amber Valley Borough Council.
The Court was satisfied that the occupiers of the address had engaged in disorderly, offensive, criminal and nuisance behaviour to members of the public and that the Orders were necessary to prevent the ongoing occurrence of this behaviour.
The Court heard that Lisa Hicking made the lives of the residents, on the street and in the locality, a misery. Neighbours were subjected to overt drug dealing and intimidating behaviour, violent behaviour, noise, and a significant increase in crime in the area.
The Council, working in partnership with Derbyshire Constabulary, applied for a Closure Order on the property after attempts were made to stop the issues. Two drug warrants were executed. However, drug dealing and other associated behaviour soon resumed. The Housing Association - Future Homes Group - will now take back possession of the property.
The Court heard that residents lived in constant fear of violence against themselves and their property. Amber Valley Borough Council and Derbyshire Constabulary hope that the closure of the property will enable the local community to return to normal.
