County Council To Announce Primary School Places Next Week

Published on Thursday 13 April 2017

Thousands of parents will be notified about their child’s primary school place next week with more than 98% being offered a place at one of their three preferred schools.

Derbyshire County Council will contact 11,196 parents to offer reception and junior places on Tuesday 18 April.

Of those parents who applied for a reception place by the deadline, 93.8% will be offered a place at their first preference school and 98.3 % will be offered a place at one of their three preferred schools.

And of those who applied for a junior place by the deadline, 96.9% will be offered a place at their first preference school and 98.3% will be offered a place at one of their three preferred schools.

Parents who applied online or through the council’s Call Derbyshire contact centre will receive an email about their child’s place after 9.30am on Tuesday 18 April if they provided an email address. They can also view their allocation at www.derbyshire.gov.uk/admissions

The county council will write to those parents who did not provide an email address or who sent in a paper application.

Derbyshire County Council’s Strategic Director for Children’s Services Jane Parfrement said: “Choosing the right school for your child is a very important decision and we know it can be a nervous wait but the vast majority of parents have got their first choice.

“Our staff have processed 11,811 applications and balanced the requests of parents with the places available at each school.

“I would urge parents who haven’t yet applied for their child’s primary school place to contact the county council as soon as possible – we have a dedicated team on hand to help and guide them through the process.”

Parents do not have an automatic right for their children to be given a place at a particular school. The small number of parents who have not been allocated their first choice have the right to appeal to an independent panel. The closing date for appeals is Tuesday 23 May 2017.

Parents who have not yet applied for a place at infant, junior or primary school for their child should use the late application procedure before Thursday 31 August 2017 at www.derbyshire.gov.uk/admissions Call Derbyshire on 01629 533190 or call the council’s school admissions team for a paper form on 01629 537479.
