Police team up to target underage alcohol sales across North Derbyshire
We have teamed up with Trading Standards to carry out test purchases at licensed premises across the north of the county.
Throughout the evening on Friday, March 17, licensing officers visited a number of pubs and bars across North Derbyshire as part of a test purchase operation. A total of eight premises were visited, with two failing, one in Heanor and one in Matlock.
Sergeant Nick Booth of North Division Licensing said: “I am pleased to see that the work of our Intoxicated campaign and Challenge 25 policy is being adhered to in the vast majority of licensed premises. Unfortunately during the checks, two premises failed by serving alcohol to an underage volunteer.
“We will be working closely with both of the premises to ensure that they have the appropriate procedures in place so that underage sales are not made in the future. Fixed penalty notices will also be issued to the sellers.”
Sergeant Booth continued: “Any sales to underage children are a concern and we are keen to work closely with premises to ensure that our young people are protected. We will continue to develop intelligence on premises that serve underage people and they will be targeted in future operations.”
Test purchases are regularly carried out throughout Derbyshire, with further initiatives planned for North Derbyshire over the coming months.
