The Belper Arts Festival Begins Today
The Belper Arts Festival will consist of "festivals within a festival". Literature, Art, Theatre, Dance, Music, Photography and Film will be represented and each of these will have it's own curator. Each part of the festival will run for approximately one week, giving everyone the opportunity see and participate in as many events as possible.
The whole will be under the umbrella of THE BELPER ARTS FESTIVAL which is a project supported by Belper Town Council. Other partners in bringing the event to fruition are Derbyshire County Council, Amber Valley Borough Council, Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site, Belper Open House Art, Strutt Community Centre, Jiggery Folkery, Derwent Community Theatre & Captive Audience Community Theatre.
The slogan under which the Festival will operate is "inclusivity not exclusivity". Encouragement is the key word. We want people, the community, to get involved and to have a go. You will have the opportunity to learn new skills through workshops as well as enjoy performances.
The interest in the project has been very very encouraging with local artists and performers already committing to participation. And it is the organisers intention that it won't all end on 27 May. It's planned to continue with workshops and community projects in order that people can further develop the skills they have learnt during THE BELPER ARTS FESTIVAL 2013.
