Greenwich Park plans unveiled

Published on Thursday 2 March 2017

A group dedicated to reviving Ripley’s Greenwich Park as a first class sports facility has unveiled plans for its development.

The Greenwich Park Sports Partnership has been formed, with the support of Amber Valley Borough Council and Ripley Town Council, along with many other sports bodies supporting the cause. It has also been joined by Paratriathlete, Phil Hogg, as Ambassador for the Partnership. The group is being supported by the independent Charitable Trust 'Power to Change' through its Bright Ideas Programme.

Addressing the shortage of modern amenities within the large community space, The Partnership says its mission is to:

To do this it will be looking to deliver:

It is also hoped future developments could include a 3G all-weather sports pitch.

Greenwich Park is currently home to Butterley United Cricket Club, who have played on the ground for more than 100 years, and Ripley Town Football Club.

Local residents and groups are invited to contact the Greenwich Park Sports Partnership and get involved with helping to shape the future of the Park.

Commenting on the initiative, Amber Valley Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Environment, Cllr Chris Short said: “The Partnership is gaining real momentum and I’m very pleased that the Council is at the heart of the action. We can all look forward to a greatly-improved community facility emerging from all of these efforts.”

Cllr Steve Freeborn (Leader of Ripley Town Council) said “what’s very exciting is the vision for the future - the Partnership is re-thinking how the whole of the recreation area can be used by a much wider range of people than now. It will benefit everyone.”
