See Derby's Famous Peregrines Up Close
This Saturday (May 28th) sees the start of a series of weekly free events which allow visitors to see the famous Derby Cathedral peregrine falcons ‘up close and for real’ through telescopes. The first Watch Point event will take place this Saturday on the Derby Cathedral Green behind the Cathedral between 10am and 1pm. From the 4th of June to the 2nd July the Watch Points will be on every Saturday and Wednesday 10-1pm, weather permitting, with a final chance to view the birds on the 9th of July.
Last year over 2,000 people came to see the chicks which will develop their feathers and make their first flights over the city before the end of June.
Nick Brown, Derbyshire Wildlife Trust said: “It’s a great chance for people to see these iconic birds and when you look through the high powered telescopes the usual reaction from folk who have never seen one is ‘Wow, I had no idea these birds lived in the city! No booking is required – just turn up and we will show you the chicks and at least one of their parents in attendance. If you are lucky you may see the adults bring in food, accompanied by a good deal of noise!”
If you would like to help the Trust run the project next year, please make a donation to http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiserweb/fundraiser/showFundraiserPage.action?userUrl=DerbyshireWildlifeTrust-1&faId=541618&isTeam=false Thank you.
