Crich Tramway Village Back on Track
Crich Tramway Village, home to the National Tramway Museum, has been fully operational since Easter Saturday and has welcomed many families, keen to take vintage tram rides over the school holidays.
The popular Derbyshire visitor attraction was due to open fully from Saturday 16th March, but the tram operation was unfortunately delayed until Saturday 30th March, due to an unforeseen technical issue with the overhead line equipment.
Karen Rigg, Chairman of the Tramway Museum Society, which owns and operates Crich Tramway Village, said:
“During the testing of our electrical systems prior to commissioning tramcars for the public to enjoy, a fault was discovered with the overhead line equipment. This necessitated more in- depth testing and rectification work. This has now been completed and we are pleased to welcome visitors to ride on our trams”.
The next event, Magical May, is from Sunday 5th to Monday 6th May, where visitors can experience springtime magic with the popular Fairy trail and the chance to meet the Fairy Queen.
Other activities include making fairy dens, attending wizarding school, Maypole dancing, enjoying the Meadow Sprites puppet walkabout and viewing the owls and parrots from Woodies Wings on Sunday and BB Falconry on Monday.
If you would like a day out with your dog, this is the place, and there is even a special ‘Barking Mad Dog Show’ for you and your pooch on Sunday 19th May in conjunction with Just for Dogs of Ashbourne. Event Manager, Candi Bell, said:
“We are looking forward to welcoming new and returning visitors to Crich Tramway Village’s exciting event season with something for all the family to enjoy”.
There are exhibitions, an old- fashioned printing press, plus, sweet shop and gift shop.
If you want to see our expert crafts people restoring and maintaining the vintage trams, head to the Workshop Viewing Gallery.
The Woodland Walk and Sculpture Trail is a must, and you will encounter the stone labyrinth along the way, with amazing views across the Derwent Valley.
