Butterley Ironworks Trust (BIT) is delighted to announce that Mr. Charles F. M. Wright has agreed to become the first-ever President of BIT.

He is soon to be introduced in that role at a free-entry special event. This is on Tuesday 29th November, at 7.00pm for 7.30pm in Greenwich Community Sports Hub, Nottingham Road, Ripley, DE5 3AY.
The Butterley Company was originally founded as Outram & Co in 1791, and Charles Wright is a direct descendant of John Wright and Francis Beresford, two of the company’s founding partners. In his first public role as BIT President, Mr. Wright is to present an overview of his family’s multi-generational role in Butterley.
“BIT is thrilled that Charles Wright has agreed to become our President, and at such an important time for us,” said Steve Freeborn, Chair of Trustees. “I think the presentation about his family could shed light on parts of the Butterley’s history local historians don’t know about, as yet! I’m really looking forward to it.”
At the event, BIT will also be sharing its proposals for a Heritage Centre for Butterley and seeking further comments about them.
Details can be viewed – and comments made - between 2.00pm and 5.00pm, also on 29th November at Greenwich Community Sports Hub, DE5 3AY.
BIT is seeking funding to help create a visitor experience telling the story of the Butterley and those who worked for the Company.
