Tansley Sunday Market & Car Boot - On A Saturday!!!

Published on Thursday 22 May 2014

Tansley Sunday Car Boot Sales and Market  has two claims to fame, not only is it one of the largest car boot sales in Derbyshire but is also renowned for having the best views of any car boot sale in the county.

Those of you who are regular visitors will know that the Market and Car Boot operates every Sunday from March to October and also every Bank Holiday Monday but from the 19th July 2014 you will also be able to visit on a Saturday - The Saturday Market and Car Boot will be held in the afternoon from midday until 5pm.

We recently visisted the event and met with the man in charge, Shaun Hogg and one of our team wrote a little review and took a few pictures so here they are.

It claims to be “The Car boot Sale and Market with the best views in Derbyshire”, which is a pretty big claim to make, so we decided to go and check it out for ourselves. We got in our car one Sunday morning, dog in tow, and pootled off to one of the three sites the market uses. It was very well sign posted and the Marshalls were all extremely organised and friendly. We were directed to our parking spot, and as we got out of the car and looked behind us we got the most amazing view over the Amber Valley towards Matlock. The sun was shining nicely, and it was just one of those beautiful moments that give you a very contented feeling and I thought to myself that they were indeed telling the truth with their catch-phrase.

So off we set, up and down the many rows of stalls which were selling everything you could want including fresh meat, flowers, garden ware, pet supplies, clothing and plants. There was a Crepe stall, burger and cob vans and a coffee van selling fresh coffees, well it would’ve been rude not to have a Latte and a cheeky piece of Rocky Road wouldn’t it?

There was also a huge array of car boot stalls offering the vast and eclectic selection of wares that us Brits love about these events. As we meandered around I noticed that a few of the stall holders and traders had put bowls of water out for people’s dogs, and it just added to the positive vibe that Tansley Market has. We even managed to pick up a fresh curry, Naan breads, Samosas and Bhajis from a little stall, so that was that evening’s supper sorted - no cooking for me!

There was a bouncy slide for the kids too, and an ice cream van so it really does cater for all family members. We spent a couple of hours there and had a lovely relaxed Sunday morning which is just what everyone wants at the weekend. If you haven’t been before, what are you waiting for? It is well worth a visit.

Parking is only £1.60, and the Market operates every Sunday (weather permitting) March – October, every Bank Holiday Monday, and Saturday afternoons (Noon - 5pm) from 19th July 2014.
