Council brings forward plans to recruit grounds maintenance apprentices
Amber Valley Borough Council has announced plans to bring forward the recruitment of four new apprentices, who will work and train within its grounds maintenance team, which is responsible for maintaining all of the parks, playgrounds and sports pitches that are owned by the council and enjoyed by many thousands of local residents.
The council has decided to bring forward the recruitment, to support either people who may have recently lost their job through no fault of their own, as a result of COVID-19 outbreak, or young people who have recently left full time education.
Councillor John McCabe, cabinet member for environment stated: "The council’s grounds maintenance apprenticeship programme has previously led to many people gaining new skills and qualifications, and has even led to apprentices going on to management positions. I’m therefore excited that we are able to offer these new vacancies at this crucial time.
"We know the job market for young people, and those who have recently been made unemployed, is exceptionally difficult right now so we are very pleased to be able to play a small part in helping the situation by providing these high quality apprenticeship opportunities."
The advertisement for the Grounds Maintenance Apprentices will go live on the council’s jobs page of its website, which can be found at www.ambervalley.gov.uk/council/jobs-and-careers on 27 July 2020, where full instructions for applicants will be detailed.
