Temporary closure of Greenwich Park pavilion
A decision to temporarily close Ripley’s Greenwich Park sports pavilion has been taken by Amber Valley Borough Council while legal issues around the management of the facility are resolved.
The issues have arisen following the borough council’s agreement earlier this year to step down as Managing Trustee of the Ripley Recreation Ground Trust which owns the pavilion and hand over those responsibilities to Ripley Town Council. Delays in that process have meant that no Managing Trustee is currently registered with the Charity Commission and therefore the sports pavilion cannot be insured.
The indoor use of the pavilion is currently very restricted due to the Covid shutdown so it is hoped that this closure will have little significant impact.
Councillor Bellamy, Deputy Leader for the borough council commented: "Until the Ripley Recreation Ground Trust is able to secure insurance, through a Managing Trustee, we have no option but to protect the building by temporarily closing it. We sincerely hope that the current legal issues around the agreed transfer of the park’s management can be resolved swiftly and enable the re-opening of the sports pavilion after the Covid shutdown is lifted."
