New arrangements to support victims of crime amid the Coronavirus outbreak
Derbyshire Police and Crime Commissioner Hardyal Dhindsa reassured victims of crime that vital support services will continue to be available throughout the Coronavirus emergency.
All victims' services across Derbyshire are currently working to offer a safe and effective source of help for those who need it including those offering specialist advice and support for victims and survivors of domestic abuse and their families.
Due to new stringent public health regulations, all direct contact and face-to-face support in people's homes and community settings have been suspended, alongside most drop-in centres, however advice lines and websites are continuing to operate as usual.
Derbyshire Victims Services and other specialist support providers are delivering their usual phone-based counselling services and where appropriate, face-to-face appointments are being arranged via Skype and video-links.
People can also find out about available support services on the CORE website (www.core-derbyshire.co.uk) which connects vulnerable people to a wealth of local and national organisations that can provide assistance.
Mr Dhindsa said: "We are doing everything possible to provide critical support and advice to those who need it most throughout this health crisis. With the situation changing quickly, services may need to change, however every attempt will be made to redirect support from another agency and importantly we are still accepting new referrals.
"COVID-19 is impacting all our communities but I understand the additional anxiety and fear this brings to victims of crime, particularly those affected by domestic violence. I would like to take this opportunity to reassure you and your family that we are still here and ready to support you and that our services are still open as usual, despite being delivered differently.
"This is a challenging time but please bear with us. In an emergency, where you or a family member is in immediate danger, you should always contact the police dialling 999."
