Amber Valley Borough Council to consider climate change working group
The possibility of establishing a cross-party Climate Change Working Group to help address the climate change emergency which Amber Valley Borough Council declared in July, will be debated at a meeting of the Full Council on 13 November.
In declaring the climate change emergency, the council stated its intention to 'assist in the prevention of catastrophic climate change.'
Initiatives would include:
consider what financial/staff resources are required to deliver the climate change agenda for the borough, what financial/staff resources are currently available to do so in this financial year, and how any shortfall can be addressed (including what does not require to be done so resourcing may be re-aligned to address this agenda);
create and develop a carbon plan for the borough;
work collaboratively with others (including town and parish councils within the borough) to create and develop a plan of action for stakeholders;
identify particular training needs, and consider how such training needs on climate change may be met;
identify and engage with individuals and organisations; and
make specific recommendations for decision to Full Council and its committees and the Leader of the Cabinet and the Cabinet on any other matters relating to the climate change agenda.
