First look at the new water park in Derby
Derby City Council has released the first images of the water park that will be part of Derby’s new pool complex at the Moorways site.
The water park will have England’s first wave generating wow ball and the first wave rider slide of its type.
More thrills will be provided by two four storey flumes, as well as dual racer slides where riders can race their family and friends. For younger visitors there will be a beach area and water playground with mini slides and water jets.
Councillor Robin Wood, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Culture and Tourism, said: “These plans have been developed with families in mind and include a number of thrills and spills to enjoy. Once built there will certainly be more ways than ever for everyone to have fun in Derby.”
The 50m pool with moving booms and floors gives the flexibility to be turned into three separate pools in a matter of minutes. The learner pool will provide a great environment for swimmers of all ages to learn to swim and take part in water activities.
Customers will be able to relax in the sauna and steam rooms, after a swim or workout. The modern gym will be kitted out with the latest equipment in addition to the three studios for a comprehensive health and fitness experience.
On the ground floor there will be a Café offering a range of refreshments as well as a soft play area for kids.
A large multi-use area will be fitted out with a family activity to complement the range of activities that are also on offer, delivering a more extensive family experience.
Earlier this year the green light was given to build a much larger leisure water pool as part of the new complex. A capital budget of £42 million has been approved to deliver and complete the whole project by late 2021.
