Cuppa with a Copper comes to Crich and Somercotes
Derbyshire Police's Cuppa with a Copper sessions are going mobile in parts of the Amber Valley, and will be making their first stops in Somercotes and Crich next week.
Officers from our local Safer Neighbourhood policing teams will be taking the Mobile Police Station out in the area to meet local residents, and chat about concerns over a drink and a biscuit.
As well as speaking about any policing issues, residents will also have the opportunity to sign up for Derbyshire Alert to be kept updated of crime in their neighbourhood.
PC Lauren Shurki is one of the officers in the team. She said: “During the summer holidays we’ve decided to take our Cuppa with a Copper events on tour.
“We will be out and about over the next few weeks and would encourage everyone to come down, have a chat and let us know of any concerns they have in their neighbourhood.”
They will also be able to discuss the ‘Safer Together’ campaign which marks new investment in the force that will see 120 new posts created working to improve police presence in neighbourhoods and bolster investigations.
The investment came after consultation with the public revealed they were willing to pay extra in council tax to fund an increase in police resources in neighbourhoods.
Recruitment to the new roles is under way with posts all due to be in place by the end of July.
Investment will also be put towards improving road safety and providing greater support to vulnerable people, including those in mental health crisis.
The team will be at Riddings Park, Somercotes, on Tuesday, 23 July between 10am and 12 noon, and at the Market Place in Crich on Wednesday, 24 July between 3pm and 5pm.
Refreshments have been donated by Tesco in Alfreton.
