Council moves out to give Somercotes bowlers a pavilion
Bowlers in Somercotes have thanked Amber Valley Borough Council after a former changing room was made available for them to use as a pavilion and clubhouse.
The bowlers at Somerlea Park have formed a new club but were unable to secure sufficient welfare facilities near their bowls green and approached local councillor and portfolio holder for environment, Cllr John McCabe to ask if the council may be willing to vacate the nearby old tennis changing rooms, which was being used for storage by the parks department.
After a little reshuffling the pavilion was emptied, and the keys handed over to delighted bowlers.
Commented Cllr McCabe: “We are very happy to be able to assist the local bowlers and without incurring costs to the council. The bowls green is now well used, and we hope the fact that a pavilion is now available will increase its popularity still further.”
Anyone interested in playing bowls at Somerlea park is invited to contact Trevor Holmes on 01773 765465.
