New top doctor appointed for Derbyshire NHS community trust
vDr Ben Pearson has been appointed as the new medical director at Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust. Dr Pearson will take over from Dr Rick Meredith who is due to retire at the end of May 2019.
Dr Pearson has been a consultant physician at the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust since 2004 and previously worked as clinical director for acute medicine and divisional medical director for integrated care in Derby.
Tracy Allen, chief executive at Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Ben is a very experienced physician and geriatrician with a wealth of medical management experience.
“Ben’s experience, values and absolute passion for the development and delivery of personalised community based multi-disciplinary care is a fantastic fit for our trust and we are very excited to be welcoming him at the beginning of June.”
Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust cares for patients across a wide range of services, including rehabilitation and dementia services predominantly for elderly patients, health visiting and school nursing services for the younger generation and a range of other services for people of all ages, including district nursing, physiotherapy, podiatry and minor injury services. The trust runs 11 community hospitals across Derbyshire and also delivers services in numerous health centres, clinics and increasingly delivers care in patients’ own homes.
Dr Magnus Harrison, executive medical director at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation, said: “Dr Pearson has a real passion for ensuring quality care is provided within the community for the elderly population, so I have no doubt that he will do a fantastic job at Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust.”
