On Wednesday 10th April 2019 Ashbourne Residents Ian Redfern & Les Harrison donated £1018.50 to the local Air Ambulance service. The Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance (DLRAA).
Ian Redfern & Les Harrison presented Richard Fletcher Derbyshire Community Representative for DLRAA, with the money at The Wheel Inn in Crompton Street Ashbourne. Ian & Les decided in April 2018 they would grow a beard for two charities close to their hearts and have the beard shaved off on 31/12/18. They obtained sponsorship and raised £2037.00. Ian & Les decided they would split the money. Les choose the DLRAA & Ian Choose Cardiac care unit Derby Royal Hospital following treatment for Kay Redfern.
Richard said: “We were delighted to be presented with the money from Ian & Les. DLRAA relies entirely on donations from members of the public as it receives no Government or National Lottery funding. Therefore, support from Ian & Les, really is invaluable and goes a long way to helping to keep our lifesaving service flying and saving lives. A special thank you to everyone for their fantastic support to Ian & Les.
DLRAA was formed in 2008 and has carried out more than 16,600 rescue missions and saved many lives in the process, each rescue mission costing on average £1,700 with DLRAA completing on average 5-6 missions every single day, 365 days a year
