Could Your Group Run Your Local Library?
Derbyshire County Council has launched a drive to find local groups and organisations to run 20 community libraries.
The council is transferring the running of 20 of its 45 libraries over to communities and is now looking for groups and organisations to step forward to work with the service.
Open days are being held at each of the 20 libraries to be transferred to community management, and there is a wealth of information about running a Derbyshire community library, the application process, the benefits and what support is available.
All the information, including an `expression of interest’ form and dates for the open days can be found at www.derbyshire.gov.uk/librariesforderbyshire
All open days run from 12-6pm.
People or groups who have missed their local library open day but are interested in finding out more can email community.libraries@derbyshire.gov.uk to see if there is an opportunity to arrange a visit and chat to a member of the libraries team.
The current drive is to identify groups or organisations to run community libraries, but people who want to volunteer at libraries in the future can still register their interest by emailing their name, contact details and the library they are interested in to community.libraries@derbyshire.gov.uk
Interested groups will be guided through the process, and there will also be help and support for individuals if they want to set up a group from scratch with a view to taking over one of the 20 libraries.
The 20 libraries are: Borrowash, Brimington, Clowne, Creswell, Duffield, Etwall, Gamesley, Hadfield, Hayfield, Holmewood, Killamarsh, Melbourne, Old Whittington, Pinxton, Somercotes, Tideswell, Whaley Bridge, Whitwell, Wingerworth and Woodville.
