PCC celebrates major goal in four-year county tour

Published on Wednesday 6 February 2019

Derbyshire Police and Crime Commissioner Hardyal Dhindsa is celebrating the "300th stop" on his ambitious tour covering the length and breadth of the county.

The milestone, which forms part of the PCC's #D383 tour, was reached during a trip to Dethick Hall in Hartshorne, South Derbyshire, as part of celebrations for national Village Halls Week - an event aimed at highlighting the fantastic work of volunteers who invest their time into village halls and community buildings.

Mr Dhindsa said: "My #D383 travels have shown me the enthusiasm and passion that exists to improve community life and the power of ordinary people to make a difference. Nowhere is this more evident than in our village hall committees where volunteers give everything including their time to protect their local heritage and preserve a vital community space.

"I'm very grateful to trustees of Dethick Hall and indeed all those people I've met on my tour so far. The team and I have learned so much from these experiences and continue to take action on the issues which matter to local people, including road safety problems which bring misery to hardworking people.

"My budget for 2019-20 addresses many of these matters, with increased investment for priority areas identified by local people during my tour including police visibility, road safety and greater support for vulnerable people. It is pleasing to be in a position once again to build up our depleted frontline and recruit a further 120 officers and staff to tackle the issues that matter and give people the level of service they richly deserve."

The #D383 tour covers every inch of Derbyshire and incorporates 383 towns, villages and suburbs.

Joining Mr Dhindsa on his visit to Dethick Hall was a number of community organisations including Rural Action Derbyshire, which provided information on its Village Halls Advice Service as well as its oil buying scheme, food security and help with travel to work or education.

The local Safer Neighbourhood Team, Rural Crime Team and Armed Response Unit also attended.

Other visits that day saw the Commissioner at Marston on Dove, Twyford, Barrow Upon Trent, Ingleby and Boundary.
