Talk Fostering With Derbyshire County Council

Published on Tuesday 15 January 2019

Potential foster carers are invited to find out how they could change a child’s life by dropping into an information evening next week.

Derbyshire County Council is holding a Talk Fostering event on Wednesday 23 January between 5pm and 7pm at County Hall in Matlock, DE4 3AG.

No appointment is needed and expert advice will be available from current and former foster carers, as well as from the county council’s fostering team.

Derbyshire County Council Cabinet Member for Young People, Councillor Alex Dale, said: “We have lots of children in our care that are in need of a loving, stable home where they can thrive and enjoy their childhood.

“Do you have a spare room and could you provide that home for a Derbyshire child? If you think you could change a child’s life we’d really like to hear from you.

“Lots of people are eligible to foster and we’ll provide you with a range of benefits and allowances, full training and dedicated support and placements can be for long or short periods of time.”

Foster carers need to be over 21 and can be single, married, straight, gay or transgender, from any ethnic origin, working or not, renting or homeowners.

Fostering placements can be for long or short periods of time and all carers receive weekly fostering payments, benefits such as free swim and leisure passes and additional allowances for carers who develop their skills through the council's training and support programme.

Councillor Dale added: “We hold Talk Fostering events throughout the year if you can’t make it to this one or you can always call or email our fostering team for an informal chat at any time.”
