Ripley Town Council grant supports Bullbridge and Sawmills clean up

Published on Thursday 13 December 2018

Ripley Town Council have presented Bullbridge and Sawmills Area Civic Society (BASA) with litter picking equipment to enable them to hold regular clean ups in their community.

Mayor of Ripley, Councillor Paul Lobley presented BASA Secretary, Gill Hirst with high visibility vests, refuse bags and holders and litter pickers at the Ripley Town Council Office on Grosvenor Road in Ripley.

The equipment was funded through Ripley Town Council’s Environment Grant.

Gill Hirst said, ‘The Bullbridge and Sawmills Area Civic Society are delighted with the donation of litter picking equipment from Ripley Town Council. This means that we can now set up work parties of volunteer litter pickers and make our attractive part of Derbyshire an even better place to live. We will be litter picking in Ladygrove, Sawmills, Bullbridge, Riversdale and Ridgeway as well as footpaths and the canal towpath and welcome anyone who would like to join us’.

To find out more about the planned litter picks, email bullandsaw@outlook.com  or visit www.bullandsaw.co.uk

Ripley Town Council have an Environmental Action Plan for the township. They would urge more local community groups to access their Environmental Awards Grant so they too can improve their local environment.

There are no pre-determined ideas as to what the funding could be used for – it is for the group making an application to decide what it wants to do. The group must be based in Ripley or within the wider township which includes Ambergate, Heage, Nether Heage, Marehay, Waingroves, Street Lane, Bullbridge, Sawmills and Lower Hartshay.  For example, it could be a planting scheme, or to purchase litter-picking equipment, or to set-up bat boxes – the Council is open to all environmentally focussed ideas.

  1. The project to be funded must assist or complement the Council’s Environmental Action Plan.
  2. The group or organisation applying must have a bank account so that the award can be paid to it.
  3. The scheme must be carried out, and the grant awarded spent by 31st March 2019 (unless agreed with the Council).
  4. Evidence of the costs of the scheme must be provided.

There are no application forms.  Simply write to the Clerk at Ripley Town Council via email (townclerk@ripleytowncouncil.gov.uk)  detailing what it is you want to do, and providing evidence of the costs.
