Local Rock Choir in Record-Breaking spectacular Flash-mob at BBC Proms in the Park
Jennie Harwood, the Rock Choir Leader in Derby, Duffield, Mickleover, West Bridgford, Beeston and Mansfield along with Rock Choir Founder, Caroline Redman Lusher and her 80-strong vocal group stole the show on Saturday 8th September with their spectacular performances at BBC Proms in the Park, in London’s Hyde Park. Taking part in the event were local individuals who attend weekly Rock Choir rehearsals and who were invited by the BBC to travel to Hyde Park and surprise the 40,000-strong audience and National viewing public.
Caroline and her group opened the event and also collaborated with Michael Ball, Josh Groban and Albert Hammond. They additionally led a stirring and nostalgic Last Night of the Proms style flag-waving and crowd sing-a-long finale!
Jennie Harwood, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Rock Choir Leader said, I'm so proud of my Choirs. Everyone came together and performed so magnificently in what was an historic and high-profile event created by the BBC. My Rock Choir members have said they had the time of their lives, it was an unforgettable experience for all.
Jayne Silverwood who was part of the Flashmob and a member of Beeston Rock Choir said, The Proms in the Park was a truly remarkable experience. I can’t stop reflecting on what a fabulous time we had.
The big surprise of the evening was undoubtedly the 10,000+ Rock Choir Members from all over the country including Derby, Duffield, Mickleover, West Bridgford, Beeston and Mansfield who had made the journey to London to support Caroline and local Rock Choir leader Jennie Harwood on stage. They spectacularly flash-mobbed the 40,000-strong audience during their first number, ‘Dancing in the Street’; each one of them revealing their Rock Choir uniform t-shirts and dancing enthusiastically in the process. Already holding three Guinness Records, this is thought to be the world’s largest ever organised singing flash-mob!
Rock Choir always welcomes new members to attend a free taster session. No audition and no requirement to read music please visit rockchoir.com or call 01252 714276.
