Country Council Fits Defibrillators Across County
Six new defibrillators have been installed by Derbyshire County Council in locations across the county, with a further four to follow.
Deputy Leader of the Council, Councillor Simon Spencer, agreed that the council would pay for 10 defibrillators after he had a cardiac arrest at County Hall last year.
The six defibrillators that have been recently installed are at:
• High Peak Junction visitors centre on Cromford Canal
• Sandiacre Library
• Killamarsh Library
• Bolsover Library
• Holmewood Library
• Clay Cross Library
A further two will be installed shortly at the council depot in Ambergate and at the Alderbrook Centre in Chinley. Two further locations have yet to be decided.
Councillor Spencer said: "After I returned to work last summer following my cardiac arrest I pledged that we would fund 10 defibrillators, and I am delighted that the first six are now ready to be used.
"My life was saved by quick-thinking staff who used a defibrillator to restart my heart so I was determined to do what I could to increase the number of defibrillators in Derbyshire.
"It’s great to see that something positive has come out the situation that I found myself in."
Each of the defibrillators fitted come with full instructions for what to do if someone has had a cardiac arrest, and are located on the outside of the council’s buildings so that they can be used at any time of the day or night by members of the public.
The council worked with East Midlands Ambulance Service to find appropriate locations.
